Gel Polish Manicure

  • A gel polish manicure uses a colour gel that cures under an LED lamp instead of air drying, so your nails come out of the chair fully dry and stay glossy for weeks.

    At K.BeautyStudio in Dyce, Aberdeen, Kate applies a rubber base coat first, followed by two coats of luxury colour gel polish, giving a full, even finish that resists cracking through everyday hand washing, typing and daily wear.

    Result? It works with your natural nail length, so there's no added tip or extension, just your own nails with lasting colour.

    If you want extra strength, ask your technician about a builder base.

  • Regular polish tends to chip within a day or two. Gel polish is built to hold its finish for three to four weeks, since the rubber base locks the colour to the nail plate rather than sitting on top of it the way standard polish does.

    It's also a lighter commitment than BIAB or gel extensions. There's nothing built onto the nail, so it suits anyone who wants long lasting colour without added length or thickness, or who's easing into gel treatments for the first time.

    Correct application matters more than people realise with gel products. Reactions and lifting are most common when polish is applied without proper training. Kate's ten years in the industry and full in-chair curing process is what keeps this treatment both long lasting and safe on the nail and surrounding skin.

    1. Your cuticles are pushed back and tidied, your nail plate is lightly buffed and shaded.

    2. A rubber base coat is applied directly onto the nail plate and cured under an LED lamp → This base is what gives gel polish its strength and stops it cracking the way regular polish can.

    3. Two thin coats of luxury colour gel polish go on next, each cured under the lamp before the next layer, building a full, even finish.

    4. Any final touch ups to the shape are done using a nail file.

    5. Finally, a nourishing cuticle oil is massaged in.

    6. Touch dry finish immediately, ready to go before you even leave the chair → The LED curing prevents any smudges or wating times.

    What happens when I’m ready for a change?
    When it's time for a change, the polish comes off with a clean soak-off. There's no scraping or filing the natural nail underneath, so it stays healthy under the colour.

    Most clients come back for a fresh set every 2-3 weeks.
